I love a resolutions list. Carrying cash is so cool. I am annoyed by how often small businesses don't accept cash, which my dad says is not legal!
And I hate to sound like a true Californian, but I am flummoxed by the idea that you'd go an entire day without eating a vegetable. Like, a resolution for this is needed? Is this normal?! I am worried about you!
My resolution is also to have people over more often, but not as often as you plan--impressive!
PS I rarely looked at my phone while nursing and I LOVED it. I read so much and at night I had the truly weirdest thoughts. Sometimes I did doze off but that's fine! (Never dropped any babies.)
I am a reformed picky eater, tbh! I eat a lot of fruit no problem, especially since moving to Oregon, but I don’t even really like salad that much! I’m trying to work on it! Hence the resolution.
Loved these - and I'm especially impressed by your no phones for night feedings resolution! I keep wishing I could quit that, but sometimes it's the only thing keeping me awake, ugh.
Also, several of my friends are taking knitting classes and I've been sort of itching to do something similar. You're inspiring me. I'm thinking I might try to take a quilting class this summer!
The only reason I am able to stay awake without my phone is because my husband wakes up with me. I mostly stare off into space and then he changes her and gets her back down. It's really hard to do completely solo!
This feels so organized which intimidated me but there is so much to be said for writing intentions down. I love your goals! I always want to dress better in the summer and the one thing that makes me feel cute is wearing pleated skort. For knitting: Very Pink Knits on YouTube is the best.
To eat a vegetable every day is honestly a banger resolution. And I loved the recaps! Appreciate the acknowledgement that you tried something and realized it simply wasn’t for you at this time—boy, you sure do sound like a grown-up 😉
TBH I didn't realize beans are a vegetable ... because I just thought they were their own category and I am sort of dumb ... so now it feels much more doable!
I love that you loved Home Cooking! Have you read More Home Cooking yet? I think it is my favorite of the two, and if you are interested in Laurie Colwin's fiction A Big Storm Knocked it Over and Family Happiness are two of my favorite books. I won't even lend them out, I love re-reading them so much.
I am going to start carrying cash with me so I can buy at least one box of Girl Scout cookies from girls selling on the street. I switched to a flip phone so I can't Venmo from my phone, so I must carry cash!
And keep hosting! We have hosted two lunches and one dinner so far this month and have at least one more dinner on the calendar. I never regret having people over. Enjoy!
Whoa Alycia! When your name popped up in my email, with the same unusual speilling and same last initial I had until I got married, I thought I was being spammed! And now I am thrilled! Dozens of us indeed!
I have a road atlas, write down directions before I leave, and listen to the radio for traffic. I felt so great yesterday when I heard about a traffic jam on the highway I was on and when the newscaster said to move to the left, I did, and got by. Maybe two other people did that with me, so I think I found the other two listeners!
I just started carrying cash today and made my first purchase on something that didn't even reach the amount needed for a credit card, so that felt great. What wasn't great was that I was owed $.02 cents change and was denied! So now I am carrying cash AND change. I am not going to spend the rest of my days adding up all the money stores are getting from me now that pennies aren't being made anymore!
Ugh I am so jealous/inspired by your hosting resolution! I have also been thinking we need to standardize some kind of hosting schedule and I need to just dooooooooo it instead of thinking about it
I second this! I’ve LOVED hosting Saturday dinners. It doesn’t matter if the house is a little dirty (I didn’t get to vacuum last Saturday) or you’re scrambling to finalize the meal — having something to look forward to every week & the genuine conversation/connection = totally worth it.
love your cash resolution from last year! Have realized that my fiancé is a local celebrity/has cultivated a positive neighborhood notoriety in a way that I never have in at least small part because he always tips in cash, and he's also always able to help someone out with a dollar. I never have it!
Don’t give up on knitting! Seriously one day it will just click. Let’s get together sometime 💛

I would not expect this! Come over for some salad and I will reform you. ;)

You totally should!

I love these goals! Still can’t get over the unmedicated childbirth. Eating a vegetable every day and having cash is such a flex.
If I had had the choice I would have had the epidural but alas the universe had different plants for me!!

Your posts motivated me to at least *try* knitting because if I never try, I'll never know if I can do it!!! :) Thank you for the rec!!
The muscles take a hot min to develop! You got this

I have nothing substantial to add here aside from I love to see another Alycia who loves Laurie Colwin! There could be dozens of us!

Sorry for the jump scare, haha!
I love this!
NO but I am dying to read her fiction now!!!! I love her voice.
Flip phone life!!! How do you navigate these streets?!?!?!

Just dooooo it! Get it on the calendar! You will love that you did it.
Yes, just do it!!!!!! It's been delightful!

I need to get more singles so I can tip in cash and change!!! I am not rich and can no longer afford to tip percentage for counter service!
