I had a pretty dreamy December. I saw Taylor Swift’s last Eras concert on December 8 with my best friend, witnessed another one of my best friends marry her incredible partner at the Little White Chapel in Las Vegas, and then enjoyed two weeks off with my little family at home in good health.
For the Eras tour, I had picked out a brown sequin dress almost immediately after I secured my tickets. The first one I ordered was a touch too small, so I returned it and started looking on Poshmark for the next size up. I paired it with brown tights, my cowboy boots, and a sherpa jacket and went as debut era Taylor, but honestly I just wanted an excuse to wear glitter freckles and dress up. The fans’ dedication to dressing up for Eras was one of the best parts of the whole experience. As for my outfit, I should have remembered this from high school, but sequin dresses are hard on the under side of your arms! If I had a do-over, I’d do a sequin skirt instead, but overall I was too euphoric to be super bothered. I am planning to wear the dress again when I attend the Fleetwood Mac dance party this fall.

I agonized over what the wear to the Vegas wedding for months! I initially thought I was going to get a Rent the Runway subscription, but I decided against it as I get too attached to my clothes to be a good renter, and my proportions/sizing make it a little too risky to only have one exchange for the month. I started combing through wedding guest dresses on Reformation and & Other Stories, but again, the sizing and return rigamarole dissuaded me from ordering anything. I found one Marimekko dress from Nordstrom that felt really perfect for Sandy’s incredible Samantha Pleet wedding ensemble, but the shipping window was too close for comfort by the time I found it.
Before we left for the Eras Tour, I brought Kathryn to my favorite secondhand store in Portland, Deep Lake. Deep Lake is a high end consignment store that pays its consigners generously and thus charges more than most secondhand stores. I started selling to them about two years ago, and between them and Give and Take (my other favorite secondhand store), I no longer have to use any resale platforms for my clothes! We pulled eight or so dresses off the rack to try on, and I narrowed it down between one that fit great, looked like a casino carpet (in a good way!!!), and was very reasonably priced and one that was sparkly and fabulous from Missoni (here is a similar version but different cut!) but at the tip top of my budget. I hemmed and hawed and tried them both on twice, and ultimately went with the sparkly, fabulous Missoni dress.

I paired it with burgundy tights (Eleanor’s suggestion!) and velvet block heels I’ve had since 2017. I felt like a million bucks and wore it the following week to a holiday party with my husband and will wear it again if we go anywhere special around Valentine’s Day!
LOVED the dress at Sandy’s wedding. It was perfection-and it was even better to see you xoxo
Glitter freckles do look fun! They look like a subtle but festive option for people like who otherwise do not wear make-up at all (i'm just not into makeup).
